Frank C Langbein is a lecturer in computer science and a member of the Geometric Computing and Computer Vision research group at Cardiff University. He received a diploma in mathematics from Stuttgart University in 1998 and a PhD from Cardiff University in 2003. His research interests lie in the areas of computational and geometric modelling, control and visual computing with applications in science and engineering, especially in quantum technology, mechanical engineering, chemistry and life sciences. His work in reverse engineering geometric models contributed novel concepts and algorithms for beautification, design intent detection and approximate symmetries. Further work includes pattern recognition, mesh processing, noise filtering, smoothing, molding and relief processing. He is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the IEEE, the Geometric Modelling Society, QYRMU and the Research Institute for Visual Computing.
